CMI Does not automatically do background screening of members other than preliminary screening during registration. The following are safety recommendations only to help make your user experience safe.
Do not reveal home or work addresses, phone numbers or other contact information to people you only have an online relationship with. Stop communicating with anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information or attempts in any way to trick you into revealing it.
Be aware of the amount and type of information you provide in your profile and public areas of the Web site to prevent people you may not want to be able to contact you directly cannot locate you. Use our Blocking feature to block members you do not want to contact you and our Report Abuse feature to notify us of Members who do not abide by our Terms of Service.
Be cautious of members who claim that they love you during the early stages of an online relationship. Additionally, be aware that it is possible to falsify information in a dating profile.
Do not post pictures or information about your minor children on the Internet.
Never send money to someone with whom you only have an online relationship. If you do not have a face-to-face personal relationship with a person asking for money, it could be a scam regardless of the sad story involved.
We caution that when communicating on the Internet with someone who wants to meet you, it is a good idea to observe the following guidelines when meeting someone offline:
Do no go to their house or have them come to yours
Meet in a public, well known place
Use your own transportation
Let a friend or family member know about the meeting and when you will return.
Limit drinking alcohol until you better know the person
Always take a cell phone and let your friend or family member know if your plans change and have a predetermined code that will let them know you are not changing your plans under duress
Establish times that a friend or family member can all you to ensure everything is okay
The Internet makes it possible to have an independent background check performed at your own expense on anyone with whom you are interested or are interested in pursuing an offline friendship or romantic relationship. Understand that this may be only available in countries like the USA where information is more readily available. Performing a criminal or other background check on those living in China may not be possible without the the help of an Independent Agency.
Background screenings are not accurate. Criminals may find ways to circumvent search technology. Not all criminal records are public in all states and not all databases are current. Background criminal screenings typically include publicly available convictions and do not cover other types of convictions or arrests or convictions from other countries.
